Meeting Point

Avenue Paul Deschanel 20, 1030 Brussels

Originally commissioned by Homem de Macédo, the Portuguese ambassador to Belgium, this house was designed in a striking Art Deco style by the architect E. Vanlerberghe in 1927. Its facade of white stone and white and pale-blue glazed bricks features a trapezoid bow window and a loggia with a wrought-iron balustrade. A cornice overflowing with stylised floral motifs enriches the facades. Inside, the rooms are decorated with finesse in top-quality materials, in both Art Deco style (entrance hall and stairwell) and a more traditional style (first floor), which convey a sense of the comfortable atmosphere of a middle-class home in Brussels in the inter-war period.
