Event concept

The BANAD Festival is an exceptional event that promotes the Art Nouveau and Art Deco heritage of the Brussels-Capital Region. It takes place each year in March: from 16 to 31 March in 2019.

The core of the Festival programme is a series of guided tours of the interiors of Art Nouveau and Art Deco buildings not normally open to the public, offering a unique opportunity for participants to (re)discover some architectural gems! These guided tours will take place over the weekends of 16 & 17, 23 & 24 and 30 & 31 March 2019

In addition, the Festival programme includes a range of activities that promote Art Nouveau and Art deco heritage, including outdoor guided tours (on foot, by bicycle and by coach), concerts, seminars, exhibitions, a collectors' and valuation fair and special events for children, school groups and reduced-mobility people.

More information on the BANAD Festival can be found in the various sections under the PROGRAMME menu.

Practical Informations

To participate in the guided tours of interiors, you can use any of these options:
- buy a pass via the website, choosing the places, dates, times and languages that suit you. Online pass bookings open on 5 February 2019 at 2pm.
- buy a ticket at the door of the building you wish to visit (subject to availability, note that many guided tours are fully booked in advance).
- buy a package of guided tours of specified buildings at fixed times via the website. Bookings open on 3 December 2018.
- buy tickets for specific guided tours by email or in person at the Explore.Brussels office (for Friends of Explore.Brussels only).

In previous years, there has always been a rush to make bookings as soon as they open, resulting in long waiting times online, and some guided tours being fully booked on the first day, thus disappointing some would-be participants. To try to mitigate this, we will be holding back some places on the guided tours and releasing them a few days after booking opens. We strongly recommend you to book places in advance, as not only does this mean you can ensure you will be able to participate in the tours, you will also avoid the queues at the doors, so you can pass more quickly from one building to another. We therefore suggest that you avoid the website in the first four hours after bookings open. Should you experience difficulties with the bookings system, please feel free to contact us.

To book places for other activities and events during the Festival, please contact the organisers (named in the programme) direct by email. Passes are not required to book activities and events.

The principal stages of the booking process are:

  1. Register or log-in (if you have already registered)
  2. Choose the number of guided tours you would like to book
  3. Choose the specific guided tours you require (shopping basket system)
  4. Payment
  5. Print tickets

FAQ : Hints and other useful information:

Choose your Visits

  • By popular demand, we have introduced more choices in the number of guided tours. You can now choose to book 1 tour, between 2 and 4 tours, between 5 and 8 tours, between 9 and 16 tours or between 17 and 24 tours.
  • If you do not book all the tours included in your pass, you can use it to buy free tickets at the door on the day up to the full number of tours. Note that this is subject to availability, that this does not apply to guided tours with supplements and that pass-holders do not have priority for places available at the door on the day.
  • You can book places for a maximum of 5 people. Once booked, the number of people cannot be changed! Explore.Brussels has introduced this limit to allow as many different people as possible to participate in the BANAD Festival. Note that it is possible to book tours for groups via the GROUPS section of the website.
  • You can book places on a single pass for up to 3 weekends.
  • If you attempt to book two different tours at the same time on the same day, they will both appear in red in your shopping basket and you will have to cancel one of them. Please make sure you allow enough time to travel from one building to another when booking your tours, as tours will not wait for latecomers. This year, we have introduced a journey time calculator to help you work out your programmes! Tours will also be listed in time and date order in your shopping basket to help you plan your programmes.

Discounts and Supplements

  •  To enable as many people as possible to participate in the BANAD Festival, we have introduced reduced-price tickets for students aged under 26 and jobseekers. Please remember to carry proof of your student/jobseeker status with you on the day, as you will be asked to show it if you have paid the concessionary price. Failure to show proof of status will result in you being charged the full price for the tours concerned, plus a fine of 50% of the cost of your pass, payable in cash on the day.
  • Children under 12 years old can participate in guided tours free of charge but places must be reserved for them in advance. Please note that children under 12 years old are not allowed to participate in the guided tours of the Solvay House.
  • Some of the guided tours of interiors require payment of a supplement. These supplements will be automatically added when you add the tour to your shopping basket. (see PRICES below)

Important Informations

  •  To avoid the website crashing due to too many simultaneous attempted log-ins, we have created a queue system. If the maximum number of people are already logged-in or in the queue when you attempt to log-in, you will receive a message asking you to try again an hour later.
    • Once you have logged-on to the bookings website, you will have 90 minutes maximum to complete your bookings, during which the tours in your shopping basket will be reserved for you. Should you fail to complete your booking in time, the tours in your shopping basket will be released for sale again. We are aware that this countdown can be stressful, but it is the most efficient way of ensuring that you can obtain your choice of guided tours and that as many people as possible can make bookings.
    • Please do not use the "back arrow" on your web navigator during the booking process, as you may lose the contents of your shopping basket and return to the start screen. Make sure you only use the "back" and "forward" buttons on each page of the bookings website.

Booking Confirmation

  • Once you have completed and paid for your bookings, you will be sent an automatic confirmation email. If you cannot see it in your inbox, please check your spam folder.
The first email message will merely confirm receipt of your order, pending payment. The second email message will confirm receipt of your payment. Finally, Ingenico, the secure payment system provider, will send you a receipt for your payment.
