15. Slagmolder House

In the middle of a residential area in Laeken, itself a nice example of bourgeois architecture from the interwar period, we find this beautifully maintained, thoroughly Modernist house from 1937. The rather unknown architect Victor Duyckers was responsible for the design with its harmonious interplay of curved and straight lines. Despite their simplicity, the interior spaces exude great strength and the whole house acquires a natural elegance through subtle architectural features such as the undulating parapets and the column in the living room. The charming, fairly deep back garden has its own rhythm and can be considered a good example of Modernist garden design.
