A peek at van Buuren
Tuesday 17 March
Tuesday 31 March
from 9.30 am to 12.30 pm
The van Buuren family home was built in 1928. Alice Piette and her husband David van Buuren commissioned this Art Deco masterpiece in the leafy neighbourhood of Uccle. The family had a great love of art and nature. Fortunately, both the house and the beautiful garden have been preserved in excellent condition!
Join us on a journey back in time and meet Mr and Mrs van Buuren. What was life like for them in this special house? What is the story behind the garden’s design? And how did they get that impressive chandelier in the hall? We’ll find out all this and more during a morning full of fun!

The Van Buuren Museum: in search of its DNA
Friday 20 March
de 9h30 à 12h30
During the 2025–2026 school year, the Heritage Classes will take your pupils on a journey to discover the essence of the Van Buuren Museum.
AD for Art Deco – What is this architectural and decorative movement? How can we recognise it? What does it tell us about the interwar period?
N for Nature – What role does it play, and what colours and shapes does it take on around the house? What did the landscape architects commissioned by Mr and Mrs van Buuren set out to convey?
DNA is also about origins and life – why did the couple create a house-museum? And what is it like to live in such a residence?
By the end of the activity, the pupils will have unravelled the secrets of this haven of comfort and beauty, where every detail is a feast for the eyes.
