Paul Hamesse, 1904

In 1904, Paul Hamesse, a former associate of Paul Hankar, transformed the Rue Royale residence into an Art Nouveau jewel for his wealthy clients, the owners of the famous Magasins Cohn-Donnay.

Imposing bow window, lounges designed as a harmonious whole, extension and winter garden lit by stained glass windows and decorated with mosaics in geometric motifs. The interior reveals a coherent and refined universe, a symbol of Art Nouveau with Wiener Secession and Mackintosh influences. Today, these spaces are among the finest examples of his work.

Unlike most of the Art Nouveau buildings in Brussels, this was a renovation, so there are also many traces of the previous owners, such as the music pavilion of the famous Marie Pleyel.
