Victor Horta, 1894 - 1897

This Art Nouveau mansion with a wide façade of white stone was built by Victor Horta between 1894 and 1897 for the engineer Camille Winssinger, a close collaborator of Ernest Solvay. There was a winter garden and a large stairwell bathed in light, the walls of which were painted with abundant vegetation. In 1927-1929, the façade and interior underwent changes following the transformation of the house into an apartment building.
In 1946, architect Henri Jacobs (son) built a vast annex to replace the garden as offices for the insurance company Le Lion Belge. The current owner, who is passionate about Victor Horta's work, has restored it to its former glory with the help of Barbara Van der Wee, an architect specialising in the master of Art Nouveau, and has reconstructed the winter garden and part of a former garden.
