François Malfait, 1923 - 1927

The architect François Malfait began to design this school complex in 1923.  It is both functional and monumental, and representative of the Art Deco style of the first part of the interwar period.  Built on the side of a hill between Rue des Minimes and Place Poelaert, it takes into account the height of the surrounding buildings so as to preserve the panoramic view over the city. Having moved a few times, Middle School A, a municipal school for boys founded in 1851, moved to its current location - the site of the former Minimes convent - in 1927.  Subsequently, the school evolved to become a grammar school in 1941 and took the name of Robert Catteau some years later.

Built into the hillside between Rue des Minimes and Place Poelaert, the building respects the surrounding heights in order to preserve the panoramic view over the city.

École Moyenne A is a local school for boys founded in 1851, which moved to its current site in 1927, on the site of the former Minimes convent. Ecole Moyenne A became an athénée in 1941 and took the name Robert Catteau a few years later.
