Louis-Herman De Koninck, 1937

Designed by Belgian architect Louis-Herman De Koninck for a couple - engineer Raoul Berteaux and surgeon Jacqueline Rinskopf, the Villa Berteaux is a modernist building erected in 1936-1937 in the Fort-Jaco district, at the time still very sparsely developed. Favouring a simple geometric form and based on a free plan, it is structured in cast-in-place reinforced concrete. Having painstakingly restored the house to its original shape and splendour since 2007, the current owners have taken particular care to restore and adapt to modern standards the famous Cubex kitchen furniture, the first model of modular fitted kitchen designed in the 1930s by De Koninck and which, industrialised, would become a benchmark for modern kitchens.
