Louis-Herman De Koninck, 1937

Designed by Belgian architect Louis-Herman De Koninck for a couple - engineer Raoul Berteaux and surgeon Jeanne Rinskopf - the Villa Berteaux is a modernist building erected in 1936-1937 in the Fort-Jaco district, which at the time was still very sparsely developed. With a simple geometric shape and a free-form plan, it is built in cast-in-place reinforced concrete.
Having painstakingly restored the house since 2007 to its original shape and splendour, the current owners have taken particular care to restore and adapt to modern-day standards the famous Cubex kitchen furniture, the first model of modular fitted kitchen designed in the 1930s by De Koninck and which, industrialised, became a benchmark for modern kitchens.
