Charles Van Nueten, 1936

The Coppens House is the creation of the somewhat forgotten but nonetheless very important architect Charles Van Nueten. It was built in 1936, the year he was appointed lecturer at the Institut supérieur des arts décoratifs - La Cambre. Just like the Barbier House in Laeken, it has a reinforced concrete structure and refined forms. The current owner had the façade restored to Van Nueten's original design, with glazed tiles in the lower part and the original window layout. The rather minimalist interior featuring, among other things, granito stairs, a travertine fireplace and doors in Oregon Pine, further emphasises the spatial qualities of the house. The visit also briefly touches on the designs and projects of the occupant, designer Damian O'Sullivan.
