Géorges Hobé, 1899

Georges Hobé designed this cottage-style house with Art Nouveau-inspired interiors in 1899 for a stockbroker named Jean-Julien Van Stappen, who used the ground floor for his office and the upper floors as his residence. At the centre of the corner facade is a large bow window which allows daylight to flood into the elegant interior that features superb wood-panelling and stained glass. Hobé was the son of a furniture maker and spent the early part of his career as a pioneering designer of Art Nouveau furniture in Belgium.
