Albert Van Huffel, 1905–1970

Although first envisaged in the early 20th century by Leopold II, construction of the Basilica as we know it today began in 1926 under the direction of the architect Albert Van Huffel. As work progressed slowly, he joined forces with Paul Rome in 1930, who completed the building in 1970. This building, with its remarkable scale – the fifth-largest church in the world – is a true showcase of religious Art Deco. The tour will include access to the Basilica’s viewing platform, offering a unique view of Brussels.
