The Maison Cauchie is one of the finest examples of Art Nouveau in Brussels. It was the private home of the architect, painter and interior designer Paul Cauchie, built in 1905. The house is best known for its exceptional façade decorated with sgraffito – a technique you will learn about during the tour. Inside, there are also various magnificent examples of sgraffito.
The tour will be interactive and will allow participants to share their knowledge. It is designed for Alpha and FLE groups and aims to meet the expectations of the learners as closely as possible. The tour will consist of activities that encourage each member of the group to explore and reflect. It offers cultural insight and draws connections with the everyday lives of the group members.
The tour is led by Bénédicte Verschaeren, a tour guide and literacy trainer. The tour is designed for groups of up to 15 people (including accompanying adults).

The Roosenboom House was built in 1900 by the architect Albert Roosenboom. He had drawn up the plans for Bernard Louis François Beeckman. The façade features numerous ironwork elements, a large arched window and beautiful designs – sgraffito – by the renowned artist Privat Livemont. All these features are characteristic of what is known as the Art Nouveau style. Inside, there are also many Art Nouveau decorations and motifs. Following extensive restoration, the house has been home to a family since September 2004.
The tour will be interactive and will allow participants to share their knowledge. It is designed for Alpha and FLE groups and aims to meet the expectations of the learners as closely as possible. The tour will consist of activities that encourage each member of the group to explore and reflect. It offers cultural insight and draws connections with the everyday lives of the group members.
The tour is led by Anne, the house’s owner (who lives there with her family) and a former French as a Foreign Language (FLE) teacher. The tour is designed for groups of 12 people (including accompanying adults).
