15. Slagmolder House

In the heart of a residential neighbourhood in Laeken, which offers a fine example of bourgeois architecture from the interwar period, stands this beautifully maintained modernist house dating from 1937. The design is the work of the little-known architect Victor Duyckers, in which curved and straight lines alternate to create a harmonious interplay. Despite their simplicity, the interior spaces convey a sense of strength, and through subtle architectural choices such as the undulating balustrades or the supporting column in the living room, the whole house exudes a natural elegance. Furthermore, the charming, rather deep rear garden has a rhythm all of its own and can be regarded as a fine example of modernist garden architecture.
