18. Morjau House

Fernand Brunfaut was a socially committed architect who designed primarily for the community; examples include the Prévoyance Sociale buildings and the former Le Peuple printing works in Brussels, as well as the offices of the daily newspaper *Vooruit* in Ghent – all projects he carried out with his son Maxime. In the prestigious Art Deco district of Meir in Anderlecht, we find this unique example of a townhouse designed by Brunfaut for a private client. The brick façade stands out for its beautiful wrought ironwork, stained-glass windows and a strong horizontal line that already has a somewhat modernist feel. The tour takes visitors through the entrance hall, the stairwell, the landing on the first floor and a balcony on the rear façade. The house has been thoroughly restored by its passionate owners, who have complemented the remaining original interior features with reconstructions faithful to the spirit of the original design.
