Jules Brunfaut, 1903–1904

In 1903, Jules Brunfaut designed this building for his friend Edouard Hannon, an engineer at Solvay, marking the only Art Nouveau project of his career. The stairwell, adorned with murals by the Rouen-based painter Paul-Albert Baudouin, and the winter garden with its stained-glass windows featuring botanical motifs by Raphaël Évaldre, a disciple of Louis Comfort Tiffany, are among the jewels of this elegant and immaculately maintained interior, which has just been fully restored.
