57. Langbehn House

This large building, which is symmetrical on the upper floor, actually comprises two interconnected houses, built from 1901 onwards to plans by the architect Jean Van Hall. Van Hall reserved the larger of the two sections for himself, whilst the smaller one was intended to house a shop. The overall décor, in a geometric Art Nouveau style, offers a beautiful blend of techniques and materials: stained-glass windows and wrought iron featuring dragonfly and butterfly motifs, pink sandstone rubblework, and a wooden loggia… The interior features an impressive number of small rooms. The house underwent renovation between 2011 and 2020. As the headquarters of the Roger Langbehn Association for Education through the Arts and Respect for Nature, the Maison Langbehn hosts the activities of this non-profit organisation.
