62. De le Court House [Etterbeek Public Library]

On the edge of Hap Park, behind a uniform row of understated Art Nouveau houses along Avenue d’Auderghem, lies a surprising architectural gem: a cottage-style house with an interior that is as intriguing as it is eclectic. It was the architect Henri Vaes, best known for his religious buildings – the most famous of which is Orval Abbey – who designed the property for Henry de le Court, a magistrate. During your visit, you will discover, amongst other things, a neo-Gothic-style study, an Art Nouveau staircase featuring mosaics, glazed wall tiles and carved motifs depicting bats, as well as a neo-classical music room. Since 2001, the building has housed the Etterbeek Public Library.
