Victor Horta, 1909–1912
In 1909, the Wolfers brothers, silversmiths and jewellers, commissioned Victor Horta to design their new shops. The architect envisaged a large complex comprising, amongst other things, goldsmith’s workshops, administrative floors and the shops. The building retains its original monumental staircase, whilst the furniture has been on display at the Royal Museums of Art and History since 1977. Today, these spaces are occupied by SWECO (an architecture and engineering consultancy), which has set up its ‘Urban Insight Lab’ there (https://www.swecogroup.com/urban-insight/).
The building is fitted with a lift, but it is not accessible to wheelchairs wider than 67 cm.
