Louis-Herman De Koninck, 1931–1932
Built between 1931 and 1932 by the modernist architect Louis-Herman De Koninck, the Villa Dotremont takes its name from its client, Philippe Dotremont, who was then a director of the Raffineries et Sucreries du Grand Pont in Hoegaarden.
A great lover of contemporary art, he wanted a home that would live up to his aspirations.
The building is characterised by a simple façade of smooth concrete, punctuated by asymmetrically arranged windows with metal frames, and a semi-cylindrical glazed volume marking the entrance.
Inside, the staircase, with its tubular handrail extending all the way to the top floor, structures the entire space.
The Dotremont House has been a listed building since 1977.
