59. Claessens House

In 1898, the architect Armand Van Waesberghe designed this house, drawing on a number of Art Nouveau influences. Externally, the façade – asymmetrically composed of light-coloured bricks, bands of red brick and blue stone – is enhanced by flat wrought-iron balustrades featuring Art Nouveau motifs. Inside, there is a welcoming atmosphere thanks to Art Nouveau features, such as the start of the staircase on the ground floor and the stylised floral motifs in the dining room at the rear.
